New Student Orientation

Welcome!

Welcome to the Animal Biology major, we are excited to have you here! As you begin your new journey as an ABI student, here are some steps to help you with your transition.

  • STEP 1: Complete Aggie 101 Modules 
  • You must complete Aggie 101 through your MyAdmissions Portal. During or after you have completed your Aggie 101 modules, write down any questions you may have to ask during your Aggie Advising Appointment (STEP 3)
  • STEP 2: Complete Aggie Advising Canvas modules
  • You should have received an invitation to the Aggie Advising Canvas page in your ucdavis inbox.

    If you did not, please make sure you have your @ucdavis.edu email address set up.

  • STEP 3: Schedule and prepare for an Aggie Advising Appointment with your Major Academic Advisor
  • Schedule an Aggie Advising Appointment with your Animal Biology Major Advisor, Elvira, to help address any questions you may have to prepare for your first quarter at Davis.

    Schedule your Appointment
    1. Visit appointments.ucdavis.edu.
    2. Select "Plant Pathology, Entomology & Nematology Advising Center."
    3. Select "Animal Biology Major

    Prepare for your Appointment
    1. Prepare a list of questions you want to address
    2. Explore important resources for incoming UC Davis Students (CAES New Student Advising and ABI Undergraduate Information)
    3. Bring your questions to your appointment!

  • STEP 4: Schedule your Chemistry and Math Placement Exams
  • Chemistry Placement Exam
    If you plan on enrolling on CHE 2A in Fall 2024, you will need to take the Chemistry Placement Exam and earn a qualifying score of 24 or higher. If you do not, and you plan to take CHE 2A in Summer or Fall 2024, you will have another chance to take the Exam. Click here to learn more about the Chemistry Placement Requirement and Exam information.

    Orientation 2024 Testing Window: May 31 (11 AM) – June 7 (11 AM)
    Fall 2024 Testing Window 1: September 4 – 10
    Fall 2024 Testing Window 2: September 25 – October 1

    Math Placement Exam
    The Mathematics Course Placement determines your level of preparation for college-level math courses offered at UC Davis. Incoming Freshmen will be notified on May 24th about the Math Placement. They will be sent instructions and login information via email to their UC Davis email address on May 24th. Visit the Math Placement Requirement website for more details.

    Fall 2024 Testing Window 1: September 4 – 10
    Fall 2024 Testing Window 2: September 25 – October 1

  • GDB Registration Dates
    Freshmen: 
    Thursday, August 8th, 8 a.m. - Midnight 
    Friday, August 9th, 6 a.m. - Midnight 
    Transfers: 
    Monday, August 12th, 8 a.m. - Midnight 
    Tuesday, August 13th, 8 a.m. - Midnight
